AKPE#GRATITUDE#GIVING#A THOUSAND BLESSINGS

The Ewe (a dialect spoken in West Africa (Ghana, Togo and Benin) expression for 'Thank You' is "Akpe na wo". Akpe also means Thousand (1000) in Ewe. This means when we say thank you in Ewe we mean "receive what you have done to or for me a thousand times." The benefactor would usually respond "me su akpe o", literally, what I have done/given to you is not up to a thousand.

Wao! This is awesome. That a simple word uttered in gratitude was a prayer of a thousand more blessings. I guess gratitude is a big thing in the culture of the Ewes of West Africa. The day after or maximum two days after someone does something for you, you're supposed to call or visit the person, no matter how insignificant the act was to say thank you even if you said it at the time the act was done. I guess it explains the principle that "it is better to give than receive because you receive a 1000 fold what you give.

..."It is more blessed to give than to receive" Acts 20:35. There is more joy in the act of giving when it is done with pure motives.
