Beauty and Discretion

As a jewel of gold in a swine's snort, SO IS A FAIR WOMAN WHICH IS WITHOUT DISCRETION.

Proverb 11:22

A nose ring runs through the right nostril and hangs down over the mouth. This nose ring is a female ornament used in the East in times past and in contemporary times.  Read Genesis 24:47; Isaiah 3:21 & Ezekiel 16:12.

Women wear a jewel of gold as a nose ring to adorn their beauty. On the contrary an iron ring is usually placed in the snout of a pig to prevent it from eating undesirable things. The use of a jewel of gold in a swine's snort is misplaced and unbecoming of a swine, as it will in a twinkling of an eye go into the dunghill or to some miry place and there defile the expensive ornament. The meaning of such a contrast, 'wearing of a jewel of gold instead of an iron ring into the snout of of swine' is, "Beauty is abused by those who have no discretion or lacks modesty with it. This is true for other bodily endowments.

This important message in Proverbs 11:22 applies to both men and women. Bible says in Proverbs 11:3 that 'An honest man's principles are FIXED, therefore his ways are plain.' Being honest NO MATTER WHAT your circumstances, location and disposition is an honourable and a desirable virtue. As a soldier, policeman, politician, public or civil servant et cetera, honesty is demanded of you. You are given the leverage to exercise your discretion in the interest of the state. The exercise of this discretion must commensurate with the trust and confidence reposed in you. Your beauty lies in your appointment, hence you have been adorn with authority and power which must be used properly. It is an honour to adorn a person with such a public trust and confidence. Hence, if any person of the above mentioned professions, or any profession engages in an act unbecoming of their professional ethics and code of conduct it smacks of the highest order of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct which must be nipped in the bud to prevent the deviant behaviour from becoming cancerous and the norm.

Looking at a beautiful woman and the improper exercise of discretion strictly in the contest of Proverbs 11:22,  a fair woman refers to a woman adorned with natural beauty but just like adorning a swine with a jewel of gold, a beautiful woman who fails to exercise her discretion well to the extent of compromising her chastity can be likened to the swine. She has departed from a taste of virtue and honour. She has lost all sense of modesty and chastity. She has forsaken Christ Jesus and embraced promiscuous life. She has forsaken her husband in addition, in the case of a married woman to embrace other men. Her beauty as a jewel of gold is valuable and desirable but if she gives it out to fornication or adultery it is properly represented by a swine adorned with a jewel of gold wallowing in the impurities of lust. She has joined her body, soul and spirit to a strange man. She is an admixture of evil concupicence. Her beauty is soiled and lost in her lust for sex out of wedlock and the defilement of the marriage bed in case of a wife. It equally applies to a promiscuous man.

A beautiful woman without discretion literally means, she is without taste and class. She is not choosy or selective; anything in trousers goes. For a man, anything in a skirt goes. She is void of the subtle tact and grace without which mere outward beauty is as ill-bestowed as the nose-ring in the snout of the unclean swine. She lacks that innate and instinctive character of womanly purity.

In the same vein a scholar, professional or a disciple of Christ who departs from the good way of life has lost his or her essence of being.
