Plead my cause, O Lord, with those who strive with me; Fight against those who fight against me. Psalm 35:1
Who is your advocate today in your life? I hope your answer is your Lord Jesus Christ! Your Lord is with you every day, defending you, protecting you, and seeking justice for your cause.
What is an advocate? In simple terms, it can be defined as one who speaks in our defense. It is translated from the biblical term, parakleton, or paraclete, in English. Various translations of the Bible have replaced the word for advocate with common words such as Counselor and Comforter.
You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror. Psalm 10:17-18
Did you know that if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you have an advocate, someone speaking on your behalf to God? Can you imagine having an advocate talking to God on your behalf daily? You must put all of your trust in Jesus Christ.
For you have upheld my right and my cause, sitting enthroned as the righteous judge…He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:4, 8-10
Wow! What a promise. You are not alone when you are facing obstacles. Many different scriptures will encourage you. Remember that God's Words will never return void (Isaiah 55:11). You need to remember who you are in Christ.
To understand the word advocate better, let's make this application. Suppose you had been charged with a horrible crime for which you were sure to receive the death penalty if convicted.
Tell everything to the only One who can do anything to help you; tell it to Jesus, your advocate.
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2
You must know Jesus Christ personally and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. He is waiting for you to humble yourself and cry to the Lord with all your heart.
Have you asked the Lord to become your Saviour and Lord of your life? Have you surrendered your life, marriage, and everything to the Lord? If not, this is the first step that will change your life completely. Will you retain your Lord Jesus as your Advocate today?
God bless,
