Leviticus 19:3
Notice the gift of long life *is attached to honouring fathers and mothers.* Which means dishonouring your father and mother is a serious infraction of the Law with fatal consequences. Did Grace take away the honour bestowed on our fathers and mothers? *A million times NO.*
The absence of fathers or a father figure in the life of children is detrimental to their growth. The word father is the Hebrew word *Aba* and means source, nourisher, sustainer, protector, progenitor, founder and author. Father therefore is the source, the sustainer and the progenitor of the child.
Fathers are models for their children and anytime a father fails as a model to his children society bears the brant of his failure. Women are the greatest sufferers of the lack of good fathers because they suffer twice. First they suffer if their father is not a good father and second they suffer if they marry a man who didn't have a good father. You cannot deliver what you don't have. Women demand from men what they can’t deliver because the men didn't get it from their father.
If you didn't have a good earthy father Jesus Christ gave an antidote to this difficiency. He said in Matthew 5:48 that, *"But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."*
This Week is dedicated to the impact of fathers on the socialisation of the boy and girl child. It is our fervent hope and prayer that Teenagers, Brothers and Sisters will appreciate how important fathers are in the family. Remember once a man was twice a child.
The smallest cell of the Church is the family. When the family is healthy then the church is healthy. If the family is sick then the church will be sick too.
