And to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24
Are you getting dressed spiritually every day? In Romans, Paul urges believers to put on Christian virtues just as they would put on their clothes daily. When you are a new creature in Christ, you must put off your sinful nature and put on your new self in Christ.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:12-15
Never give up the desire to have a thriving spiritual walk. Do not be discouraged or defeated and give up on God. When I speak to someone walking through defeat and feeling discouraged, I ask them about their spiritual walk. It is not uncommon to hear them say how they stopped attending church, no longer read their Bible, and stopped spending time in prayer. Putting on Jesus Christ means to allow Him to cover you so that when others see you, they see only His righteousness. When you talk to your spouse, do they see the Lord Jesus radiating out of you or a man or woman who is very angry and bitter about everything that has happened to them? Time is short. You must change first. Here is a scripture of warning:
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:12-14 When you choose to live like this, you will not feed your fleshly sinful nature but your spirit and soul, striving to be more like Jesus Christ every day.
